How to use this page

A Joint Select Committee is made up of Members of both the House of Assembly and the Senate. Parliament sends a Bill to such a Committee when it wants closer study before deciding: the Committee invites written and spoken submissions from the public and from organisations, may propose changes to the Bill, and then lays a Report in each House.

Each entry here gives the Bill or Bills referred, the Committee’s Report (and the Bill as the Committee amended it, where Parliament published that), any press release, and the submissions the Committee received. The dates come from the Minutes of the House and the Senate — each date opens the Minutes at the page.

The last line of each entry says what became of the Bill: passed as an Act (with a link to its journey on the Bills & Resolutions page), still before Parliament, or lapsed when Parliament was dissolved.
